The NFL’s Wildcard Saturday got off to a crazy start given the nature of the weather in San Francisco ahead of the game and that was to be some sort of sign of the drama to follow in the day’s Wildcard matchups.
Despite the weather, in the first game of the day Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers comprehensively beat the Seattle Seahawks 41-23 as Brock Purdy continued his awesome form delivering an utterly convincingly display including almost completing what might have been the most insane play of his career which you can find on YouTube. The 49ers showed there was a reason for their 2-0 record vs Seattle and made it a perfect 3-0 with the win.
In the second game at a rabid TIAA Bank Field Stadium with the fans going mental making for an unreal atmosphere the Jacksonville Jaguars got off to the worst start possible as QB Trevor Lawrence tossed 4 1st half INT’s and left his team trailing 27-3 at half time. Cashman (living on UK time) went to bed saying to the Diceman “cue the comeback” not knowing what would unfold.
The Chargers virtually silenced the crowd and were almost perfect in the first half before tiring in the second half. The Jags fans started going nuts and drove their team on as the Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off one of the greatest ever comebacks and the best upsets in history riding the arm of Trevor Lawrence as he redeemed himself throwing 4 2nd half TD’s, coming of age and leading his team to a 31-30 win to beat the Los Angeles Chargers.
Super Bowl winning coach Doug Pedersen handed out a pencil whipping to his opposite number, Chargers’ coach Brandon Staley, after being out-coached in the first half but turning the tables as Jacksonville stunned Staley and the entire NFL showing they are for real. Not resting his players vs Denver last week looks like it could have cost his team the game and might mean the end for Staley in Los Angeles some are suggesting.
The day’s results revealed that hot handicapper Jimmy Dice 🎲 to no-one’s surprise went a perfect 2-0 on the day after picking the 49ers and the Jags ATS.
Perhaps more surprisingly Cashman also took San Francisco in the first game and decided to make a last minute pick on the Jaguars to win outright in the 2nd game meaning that Cashman also went 2-0 and matched his esteemed colleague the Diceman 🎲.
The rest of the games are gonna be compelling as the Buffalo and Miami game is proving to be a tight affair which is no surprise given the teams split their 2 divisional games this season both winning at home. A veritable feast of football.
